History of The Red String
According to legend, the Old Man Under the Moon (Yuè Lǎo), the deity of love and marriage, ties an invisible red string around the ankles (and in later tellings, the fingers) of two people who are destined to meet and be together. No matter how far apart they are, how complicated the journey, or how much time passes, the string may stretch or tangle—but it never breaks.
The red color is significant in Chinese culture, representing luck, joy, protection, and marriage. Because of this, the red string became closely associated with romantic fate and lifelong bonds.
